AHYKA [eɪ-eɪʧ-waɪ-keɪ-eɪ] in the Muisca indigenous language, signifies the interconnectedness of all things, the flow of energy between the living and the inert. To us, it perfectly embodies our commitment to coffee that nourishes not just your taste buds, but the entire ecosystem that brings it to your cup.
Meet our Founder.
With a solid background in engineering and a successful career in business development and sales, Matthieu brings a wealth of experience to the world of entrepreneurship. He has inspired teams and overseen projects for leading multinationals across various industries, including healthcare, nutrition, energy, chemicals, and manufacturing.
Driven by a desire to connect coffee lovers with ethically sourced, high-quality beans, Matthieu embarked on a journey and founded AHYKA Coffees in 2024, a brand that would make a positive impact on the world.
"I believe that real coffee has the power to bring people together and create positive change. AHYKA Coffees is more than just a brand; it's a movement to promote sustainable artisanal agriculture, empower communities, and deliver exceptional coffee experiences." - Matthieu, Founder of AHYKA Coffees
Why AHYKA.
Ahyka Coffees wasn't born in a boardroom or an excel spreadsheet. It was born on the field, on a journey through Latin America, fuelled by a simple question: why? Why were the people who grew the world's most incredible coffees struggling to make ends meet, while the coffee itself was often overpriced and underwhelming?
In 2024, that question sparked a passion. We started small, partnering with a single producer in Chiapas, Mexico. We saw firsthand the dedication and skill that went into cultivating exceptional organic beans. We also saw the harsh reality: talented farmers weren't getting a fair share.
Unique Approach.
At Ahyka Coffees, we believe in empowering coffee producers and promoting sustainability at every stage of the coffee supply chain.
Local Roasting for Maximum Impact:
Unlike traditional models, we roast our coffee near its origin, cutting greenhouse gas emissions significantly compared to shipping green beans. Roasted coffee is, on average, 20% lighter than green beans, reducing the carbon footprint of freight and transport. This approach empowers local producers, providing them with valuable knowledge and financial benefits, while keeping the value of coffee within the community.
Prioritizing Quality and Sustainability:
Instead of purchasing cheap green coffee beans in bulk, we carefully select high-quality artisanal beans and roast them to perfection locally.
A Force for Change
Ahyka Coffees is more than just a coffee brand; we are a catalyst for positive change. We strive to not only sell coffee but also to shift consumer mindsets about the importance of sustainability, fair trade, and supporting local communities.
More Than a Mission Statement.
At Ahyka Coffee, we believe in exceeding expectations. While unmatched quality and exceptional taste are at the heart of every cup, our true purpose lies in Real Commitment. This means:
- Empowering Small Producers: We connect directly with over 390 small, sustainable farms, with over 150 women-owned, cutting out middlemen. Our farmers earn on average 30% more income compared to traditional models, including fair trade.
- Direct Access, Extraordinary Flavor: With AHYKA, you experience the unique flavors of rare, artisanal micro-lot specialty coffee beans, sourced directly from passionate producers you wouldn't find elsewhere.
- Sustainability as a Responsibility: We believe in giving back. Through our USDA Organic and Rainforest Alliance certifications, we prioritize eco-friendly practices. Additionally, 1% of our income goes towards environmental causes through 1% For the Planet.
- Education is Key: We invest in the well-being of the communities we partner with. 4% of our income funds educational programs for women in these regions, empowering them for a brighter future.
Our Vision for the future.
We are committed to making a positive impact on the global coffee industry and beyond. We are actively working to expand our business model to include coffee producers in Guatemala and Colombia, while also pursuing B-Corp certification in 2025.
