V60: A Versatile Pour-Over Method
Origin and Taste Characteristics:
The V60, named after the shape of its filter cone, is a popular pour-over brewing method. Developed in Japan, the V60 produces a clean, bright cup of coffee with a focus on highlighting the natural flavors of the beans. V60 coffee is often characterized by its balanced acidity, sweetness, and aroma.
Preparation Time:
A V60 typically takes around 2-3 minutes to brew.
Coffee Quantity:
For a 12-ounce cup of coffee, use approximately 16-18 grams (0.56-0.63 ounces) of medium-fine ground coffee.
Water Temperature:
The ideal water temperature for V60 brewing is between 195°F and 205°F (90°C and 96°C).
Brewing Instructions:
- Rinse the V60: Wet the paper filter with hot water to remove any papery taste.
- Add coffee: Place the paper filter in the V60 and add the ground coffee.
- Pour water: Slowly pour hot water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, starting with a small amount of water to bloom the coffee.
- Steep: Continue pouring water in a spiral pattern, ensuring the coffee grounds are evenly saturated.
- Remove V60: Once the desired amount of coffee has been extracted, remove the V60 from the server.
- Pour and enjoy: Pour the coffee into your favorite cup and savor the clean, bright flavor.
Tips:
- Experiment with different grind sizes, pour rates, and water temperatures to find your preferred flavor profile.
- For a more concentrated brew, use a slightly finer grind.
- For a lighter, more acidic cup, use a slightly coarser grind.
Enjoy your perfectly brewed V60 coffee!
